LAHORE: South Africa have suffered a major blow to their power-play line-up ahead of the Pakistani One Day International (ODI) series, as the team’s most potent middle-order batter, Dewald Brevis, has been ruled out with a shoulder injury.

The rising talent was hurt during the third T20 International between the two sides held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium last week. Further scans confirmed a shoulder muscle tear, so he will not feature in the three-match ODI series, which is going to be held from October 4 to 8.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) in its official communication said Brevis’ condition is “a minor injury, he needs to take rest,” thus he has been kept out of the upcoming series. The board said a player replacing announcement will be made shortly.

Brevis, who was compared for his style to AB de Villiers, hence called “Baby AB,” has made his debut in the South African team in six ODIs, accumulating 110 runs at a strike rate of 159.42.

Without him, the Proteas will be hard-pressed to achieve their goals, as Brevis was the one of the brightest young batsmen in limited-overs cricket for them.
