PESHAWAR: Thick fog has covered parts of the country, leading to the shutdown of the M1 Motorway between Peshawar and Rashakai, for all vehicle movement.
A Motorway representative stated that visibility, in this part has decreased to low levels, causing driving to be very challenging and possibly deadly. The authorities have chosen to act to prevent accidents and protect travellers’ safety.
Authorities stated that the closure was aimed at maintaining traffic flow and avoiding major accidents, as drivers often fail to notice barriers or slowed vehicles in dense fog, leading to serious collisions.
Authorities have called on people to stay off the roads unless their travel is necessary during foggy conditions. The use of fog lights, driving at a reduced speed, and maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front are some of the recommendations for those who have to be on the road.
