Motorway closed at multiple points; traffic advisory issued

Earlier, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Monday closed motorways at multiple points amid dense fog and issued an alert for travellers’ safety.

According to the police, due to heavy fog, the M3 Motorway from Darkhana to Judhanwala, the M4 Motorway from Abdul Hakim to Gujran and the M5 Motorway from Shershah to Zahir Pir have been closed to all types of traffic.

A spokesperson for the Motorway Police said that travel can be extremely dangerous due to a significant reduction in visibility, so citizens should avoid unnecessary travel.

The spokesperson warned that lane violations during fog can cause serious accidents. He directed road users to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking in any case.

According to the Motorway Police, high speed and keeping a short distance from the vehicle in front increase the risk of accidents many times over. Spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed advised citizens to travel during daylight hours if possible.

According to him, the hours from 10 am to 6 pm during fog are considered relatively safe.

He urged drivers to use fog lights and said that the headlights and fog lights of vehicles should be in good condition to improve visibility.

The Motorway Police has instructed to reduce speed while traveling, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and contact the Motorway Police Helpline 130 for immediate assistance in any emergency.

The spokesperson said that the safety of citizens is the top priority of the Motorway Police and the motorways will be opened in phases as soon as the weather conditions improve.
