According to Rescue 1122 officials at least 14 people were killed and several others injured in a tragic road accident caused by dense fog in Sargodha.

The incident occurred near Gulha Pur Bangla in Kot Momin tehsil, where extremely low visibility due to heavy fog caused a mini truck to lose control and plunge into a dry canal.

The vehicle was carrying 23 passengers who were travelling to attend a funeral.

Rescue 1122 sources said that seven people were killed on the spot after being trapped beneath the overturned vehicle, while the injured were rushed to a nearby THQ hospital.

Another seven victims later succumbed to their injuries during treatment, raising the death toll to 14.

Several of the injured remain in critical condition, and authorities are considering shifting them to other hospitals for better medical care.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene soon after receiving information and launched relief operations.

The bodies and injured were retrieved from the canal and transported to hospitals.

The accident cast a pall of gloom over the area as relatives of the deceased reached hospitals to identify the victims.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during dense fog and to adopt precautionary measures to prevent accidents.
