COPENHAGEN: The Defense Minister of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen has delivered a tough warning to the US that in the case of an attack on Greenland, Denmark will give its response right away and will not wait for directions. The minister made it clear that the defense of Greenland, which is a self-governing area of Denmark, will be a matter of seconds.

“We will not hold back and be asking questions later if there is an attack on Greenland”, announced the Danish Defense Minister.

This strong statement came after the release of a single statement by seven European countries that said the future security and governance of Greenland was an issue only for Denmark and Greenland.

At the same time, US Vice President J.D. Vance had a word of warning for the European leaders – he said security of Greenland is a matter that should be taken very seriously. He mentioned that if Europe does not take action the US might go for intervention. Vance also elaborated that Greenland is an important area for the world missile defense system and there are some enemy countries who are apparently looking to establish a presence in this area.

Trump considers military options to acquire Greenland, White House confirms

Earlier, US President Trump along with his advisors, has started to think about how to get Greenland, and military actions are said to be one of the options. The White House says that the government is looking into different tactics, among which the one involving military presence is also there, to get hold of the land.

President Trump has said it straight that getting hold of Greenland is a national security matter for the U.S. Senior American officials have disclosed that the President intends to secure the island during his present term, with a variety of options under consideration, one of which is buying it from Denmark or negotiating an international association with the island for its independence.

The NATO leaders’ disapproval has not changed the government’s plans on this matter. The issue is still open but Trump is adamant about bringing the island into the United States’ strategic assets and considering it a very important step for national security.
