ISLAMABAD: The final decision on Pakistan’s T20 World Cup participation will be made today. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s Mohsin Naqvi will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the issue and a final call will be taken.
According to sources, the decision will follow the Prime Minister’s guidance while the PCB will adhere to government instructions. The meeting will discuss the country’s tournament position and ongoing security discussions with other factors.
Naqvi met with national cricketers at a meeting where he showed support for the Bangladesh Cricket Board by explaining that they base their World Cup position on their fundamental principles. He declared that PCB follows cricket’s fundamental principles to establish its approach which the board will implement after the government makes its World Cup decision.
Naqvi explained that cricket which becomes politicized, helps nobody, while he maintained that success in cricket requires teamwork and adherence to proper principles. Our players possess exceptional skills that enable them to compete effectively. He established that through collaborative work people can achieve their complete life goals.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup because the Bangladesh Cricket Board failed to provide a final response after multiple security assessments. Scotland has joined the tournament as a replacement team despite their lower ranking.
ICC stated that after extensive consultation with security experts, no specific threat to Bangladesh’s team in India could be confirmed. The council decided to include Scotland as an alternative because the Bangladesh Board failed to provide its final response before the established deadline.
Scotland has achieved 14th place in the ICC T20 rankings because its ranking exceeds that of teams such as Namibia, UAE, Nepal, USA, Canada, Oman and Italy.
