DUBAI: New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has shot to the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings after surpassing India’s Virat Kohli thanks to his excellent batting in the recently finished series against India.

Mitchell’s ascension is a direct result of New Zealand’s remarkable achievement of winning an ODI series against India by 2–1, which was also their first-ever ODI series win in India.

The superb show of the right-handed batter finished at Indore, where he was ecstatic with his career-high 137 runs. Mitchell, at the end of the series, had scored an incredible total of 352 runs and was named the Player of the Series.

The record thus established is the highest run of a non-Indian batsman in a three-match (or fewer) ODI series in India and is thus a great achievement, dispelling the myths around his ability.

As a result, Mitchell is awarded a career-best rating of 845 points in the ICC rankings. He has shortly occupied the first place, later giving it up to Rohit Sharma, who is coming to this position for the first time in his career. Subsequently, Virat Kohli climbed back to the top but his reign was cut short.

Kohli is now 50 rating points behind Mitchell as the New Zealand player fortifies his status as the leading ODI batsman in the world.

U-19 World Cup: England dominates Scotland with a 252-run victory

Earlier, the English U-19 cricket team has secured their third consecutive win at the ICC U19 World Cup by defeating Scotland with an easy 252 runs powerful win. The young English team showed their superiority in a rather unbalanced game and established a very strong position in the tournament.

Chasing 405 runs, Scotland were bowled out for 152 in 44. 5 overs. Finlay Carter (34) and Max Chaplin (22) made decent contributions for Scotland, while Theo Robinson and Jack Woodhouse made 19 and 18 runs respectively.

Scotland did a good job predicting the pitch conditions even before the match and decided to bowl first in the 17th group game of the tournament at Harare. England took the challenge and made a gigantic score of 404 runs, losing 6 wickets in 50 overs. Among the English batsmen, Ben Mess was the brightest, who made 191 and laid the foundation of the huge total.

Such a persuasive show makes the group’s performance of England even stronger as they look forward to the next stage of the tournament.
