PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and snowfall in various parts of the country as a new westerly weather system has entered Pakistan.

According to the PMD, rain and snowfall are expected in Islamabad, Lahore and several other parts of the country.

Snowfall is likely in Murree and the Galiyat, while rain has been forecast for a number of cities across Punjab, including Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

Heavy snowfall is expected in Galiyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat and Kalam.

In Balochistan, rain and snowfall are forecast during the coming week.

Intermittent rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms, along with light to moderate snowfall, is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until January 19.

The PMD further stated that rain and snowfall are likely in Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas from January 18 to 20.

From January 20 to 23, rain is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, Murree, Galiyat, the Potohar region, and districts of the Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur divisions.

Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms has also been forecast at several locations in the Peshawar, Hazara, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan divisions.
