PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi decided to convene a parliamentary party meeting that is scheduled for today at 2 PM.

The whole provincial assembly members have been instructed to attend the ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌meeting. Sources indicate that the conversation will concentrate on organizing a protest, outside the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday.

The meeting will additionally address the plan for involving members in the protest, along with discussions about the party’s course of action following the rejection of a meeting, with PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Sources added that Afridi will brief assembly members on the next steps and overall strategy, ensuring all members are aligned before the planned demonstration.

CM Afridi calls for probe into IMF alleged Rs5,300bn corruption

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that his administration will seek accountability from the government regarding what he referred to as Rs5,300 billion, in corruption revealed in an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report.

During a gathering of the Insaf Students Federation (ISF), in Peshawar, CM Afridi mentioned that his political career started with the student wing and he had now attained the position of minister. He condemned those who allege that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is engaging in protest politics, asserting that the party would not be compelled to demonstrate if justice were being served.

Afridi mentioned that following the incidents of May 9 individuals who conducted press conferences were pardoned, whereas those who supported the party founder were penalized.

“This system has been completely unveiled,” he stated, noting that after using every constitutional and legal method the provincial leadership was still refused a meeting, with the party’s founding chairman. “What constitutional choice remains for us except to protest?” he inquired.

The chief minister blamed the government for not releasing the province’s legitimate funds. “While the federation claims there’s no money for us, the IMF simultaneously presents an accusation of Rs5,300 billion corruption. We will demand accountability for this Rs5,300 billion ” he stated.

Afridi further claimed that after the merger of the tribal districts, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was still not being given its due share in the NFC Award. He added that the federal government owed the province Rs2,200 billion in net hydel profit arrears.
