PESHAWAR: An important one-on-one meeting was held between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt. Gen. Umar Ahmed Bukhari, at the CM Secretariat to discuss the province’s law and order situation and the recent terror incidents.

According to reports, the meeting encompassed not only the security arrangements but also the counter-terrorism measures and the developmental projects in the tribal areas.

Chief Minister Afridi instructed the necessity to open dialogues with the stakeholders for keeping peace in the province and also underlined a joint strategy as an effective way to fight against terror.

The Corps Commander was very positive about KP government’s security measures and stressed the importance of coordinative efforts at higher levels i.e., federal and provincial.

After the meeting, CM Afridi also conducted a session of the apex committee to take stock of the security situation and enhance cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

The meeting details were quickly circulated on social media, leading to a heated discussion among the platform users as to whether Afridi had taken Imran Khan’s permission or was acting on his own. Several netizens pointed out that when Afridi was setting the condition for the formation of the cabinet, he said it would require Khan’s approval, however, this meeting seemed to be in contradiction. Some even wrote that the decision somehow gives an impression that Afridi like Khan is also capable of doing a sudden change of direction.

The conversation reflects increased scrutiny of political decision-making and questioning of the independence of provincial leadership in KP from the public ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌perspective.
