PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Sohail Afridi, after deciding to meet political leaders from all sides, called them individually. These were the leaders among whom also counted Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Aimal Wali Khan, Siraj ul-Haq, Amir Muqam, Aftab Sherpao, and Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha.

After these conversations with political leaders, the Chief Minister Afridi decided to go public with these words that “fighting for order and the rule of law in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is indeed the main focus of the government”. Moreover, he said not a single word of dissent was voiced by any of the politicians during the discussions regarding the cruciality of regional peace.

One of the outcomes of this political cooperation was the decision to hold a Jirga (tribal council) under the Provincial Assembly’s In-House Committee. Jirga will be that group which consists of the political leaders from all the parties who talk and find common ground on security issues.

The Provincial Assembly Speaker, Babar Saleem Swati, will be the one who extends the formal invitation to all the leaders to attend the Jirga, which, among other things, aims to establish unity and joint efforts to achieve peace. “Debates among us are just a fact of life in democracy, but still we can say that guaranteeing peace is a goal which we all share and thus have to cooperate,” said CM Afridi.

The programme is interpreted as a move forward in healing political splits and getting a mutual agreement on the security conditions in the area.
