LOWER CHITRAL: The district administration of Lower Chitral has imposed a complete ban on the entry of new rickshaws in the district to address rising traffic congestion, public nuisance, and law and order concerns.
The decision was made during a District Coordination Committee meeting held on December 18, 2025, following orders from the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Lower Chitral.
Under the provisions of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the entry of all types of rickshaws is prohibited within the district limits. The order has come into immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of two months.
Authorities have warned that any violation of the ban will lead to legal action under Section 188 CrPC against those responsible. The district administration has urged the public to cooperate fully with the authorities and adhere to the new regulations to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain public safety.
Officials stated that the measure aims to reduce road congestion, prevent accidents, and maintain law and order in busy areas of Lower Chitral. The administration emphasised that the ban is a temporary but necessary step to improve traffic management and safeguard the interests of the residents.
The district administration has assured that further decisions regarding rickshaw operations will be made after reviewing the situation at the end of the two months.
