CHAMAN: The first snowfall of the winter season caused a drop in temperatures across Chaman, Ziarat and several parts of northern Balochistan on Thursday, cutting off roads in the region.

According to reports, snow is falling in Khojak Top, Khwaja Imran, Toba Achakzai, Qila Abdullah, Gulistan, Jangal Pir Alizai, Shela Bagh and Mezai Adda, while temperatures in Chaman have dropped below the freezing point.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the temperature in Chaman has dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius, further intensifying the cold in the region. Even lower temperatures were recorded in higher areas, with Khojak Top and Khwaja Imran seeing minus 3 degrees Celsius, while Toba Achakzai experienced the coldest conditions at minus 4 degrees Celsius.
Heavy snow accumulation has been reported in several areas, with around one and a half feet of snow in Toba Achakzai, about one foot in Khojak Top and nearly 10 inches in Chaman.

Residents on the occasion complained about the road blockage and power supply disruption, which has paralysed the routine life in the area.

In Qila Saifullah city and surrounding areas, rainfall has further worsened the cold, while intermittent snowfall has been reported in Kan Mehtarzai and Muslim Bagh. The Met Office said rain and snowfall in Qila Saifullah are likely to continue until the evening.

Meanwhile, Mastung received its first snowfall of the winter, leaving the city blanketed in white and making the weather considerably colder. Rainfall in Kharan, Panjgur and adjoining areas has also led to a noticeable fall in temperatures.
