ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday reported an increase in cement prices across the country due to the current energy issues.
According to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, there has been a slight increase in cement prices across the country over the past week. During the week ending March 26, prices in both northern and southern cities rose compared to the previous week.
In northern cities, the average price of cement increased from Rs 1,476 to Rs 1,482 per sack, reflecting a rise of 0.43 per cent. In southern cities, the average price saw a more significant increase of 1.20 per cent, going from Rs 1,471 to Rs 1,489 per sack.
When examining prices in various northern cities, Bahawalpur has the highest price at Rs 1,533 per bag. Other prices include Rs 1,400 in Bannu, Rs 1,441 in Islamabad, Rs 1,433 in Rawalpindi, Rs 1,520 in Gujranwala, Rs 1,510 in Sialkot, Rs 1,509 in Lahore, and Rs 1,450 in Faisalabad. In other cities within Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prices are Rs 1,500 in Sargodha, Rs 1,513 in Multan, and Rs 1,493 in Peshawar. These price differences can be attributed to variations in supply and transportation costs across different cities.
In the southern and western regions of the country, Khuzdar has the highest price at Rs 1,600 per bag, while cement costs Rs 1,400 in Karachi. Prices in other cities include Rs 1,498 in Hyderabad, Rs 1,550 in Sukkur, Rs 1,413 in Larkana, and Rs 1,470 in Quetta.
Experts suggest that this recent slight increase in prices is part of an ongoing market adjustment concerning the cost of construction materials. It is also worth noting that there was a significant decline of 26.53% in cement exports recorded earlier in November, the effects of which are now being felt in the local market.
