Cement prices drop in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A slight decline in the retail prices of cement was recorded across the country during the past week, according to fresh data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Tuesday.

The PBS data for the week ending January 1 shows minor fluctuations in cement prices in various cities. In the northern regions, the average retail price of cement per sack was recorded at Rs 1,387, reflecting a decrease of 0.27 per cent compared to the previous week, when the average price stood at Rs 1,391.

In contrast, cement prices in the southern regions remained unchanged. The average retail price per sack in southern cities during the week under review was Rs 1,446, the same as the previous week.

City-wise data for the northern regions shows that the average retail price of cement per sack in Islamabad was Rs 1,367, while it stood at Rs 1,361 in Rawalpindi. Prices were recorded at Rs 1,420 in Gujranwala, Rs 1,400 in Sialkot, Rs 1,457 in Lahore, Rs 1,380 in Faisalabad, Rs 1,400 in Sargodha, Rs 1,411 in Multan and Rs 1,413 in Bahawalpur. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the average price was Rs 1,353 in Peshawar and Rs 1,300 in Bannu.

According to PBS, cement prices in southern cities during the same period were Rs 1,379 per sack in Karachi and Rs 1,428 in Hyderabad. In Sukkur, the average price was recorded at Rs 1,530, while it stood at Rs 1,407 in Larkana, Rs 1,490 in Quetta and Rs 1,443 in Khuzdar.

Overall, the data indicate a slight decline in cement prices in the northern regions of the country, while prices in the southern regions remained stable during the week under review.
