Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal (FM) Syed Asim Munir, delivered an address at the National Ulema Mashaikh Conference held in Islamabad today.
The conference saw the participation of scholars and Mashaikhs from all schools of thought across the country.
In his address, Field Marshal Munir spoke at length on a range of pressing issues facing Pakistan, including terrorism, national security challenges, the country’s emerging role on the global stage, and the importance of preparedness and knowledge.
Drawing on verses from the Holy Quran and classical poetry, he spoke on Pakistan’s distinct position and responsibilities in the Islamic world.
Allah Almighty has bestowed upon Pakistan the honor of being the guardian of the two holy mosques, he said, highlighting the deep connection between the State of Tayyiba (Saudi Arabia) and Pakistan.
Field Marshal Munir reflected on past military operations, citing Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos as an example of divine support in times of national crisis.
He accentuated that in any Islamic state, only the state has the authority to issue orders or fatwas related to jihad.
He stated that approximately 70 per cent of the Fitna al-Khawarij formations originating from Afghanistan consist of Afghan nationals, and stressed that Afghanistan must choose between aligning with these extremist forces or supporting Pakistan.
The conference served as a platform for reinforcing the bond between Pakistan’s military leadership and religious scholars, highlighting shared responsibilities toward national security, Islamic solidarity, and the protection of future generations.
