A study has shown that just 10 minutes of exercise per day can prevent the growth of bowel cancer and repair damage DNA.

Researchers at Newcastle University have found in a study that a short period of exercise can rapidly cause molecular changes in the blood. The study found that physical activity protects against the development of bowel cancer. However, the biological mechanism behind this is not clear. For the study, blood samples were obtained from 30 obese or overweight but otherwise healthy people before and after 10 to 12 minutes of exercise.

The researchers then exposed the pre- and post-exercise samples to bowel cancer cells. The study found that vigorous exercise increased the levels of 13 types of proteins in the blood. Several of these proteins are associated with reducing inflammation, improving blood vessel function, and improving metabolism.
