PESHAWAR: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and discussed matters of mutual interest and the peace and security situation in the region.
They also hold Discussion on public welfare projects running in the province with the support of the British government. They agreed to further expand the partnership and cooperation between the provincial government and British institutions in social sectors.
British High Commissioner hints at starting a new program in the province after the Seed and SNG programs. The provincial government appreciates the support of the British government’s subsidiary bodies, especially the SEED and SNG programs, Ali Amin Gandapur said.
He said that the SEED and SNG programs have played an important role in enhancing the capacity of the provincial government departments. He said that KP is grateful to the SEED and SNG teams and the British government for their role.
The provincial government is keen to continue the SEED and SNG programs in the province. He said that the provincial government is facing the challenges of climate change, and they are investing heavily to deal with the effects of climate change.
Ali Amin Gandapur said that the process of restoring infrastructure damaged by the recent floods is underway and the provincial government is paying special attention to economic development, especially the provision of employment opportunities in the merged districts.
“We are working for effective planning and transparency of development projects for better utilisation of development resources. Working on digitisation of government affairs”, Chief Minister remarked. The provincial government needs the cooperation of international partner institutions in these areas, Ali Amin Gandapur.
He said that the province is facing law and order issues and until the situation in Afghanistan is improved, sustainable peace in the region is not possible, there is a need to adopt the path of negotiations and jirgas for a permanent solution to this issue.
He went on to say that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been hospitable to its Afghan brothers and sisters for many decades, and they want the return of Afghan refugees in a dignified manner. The provincial government is providing all possible facilities to the Afghan refugees returning home.
