British-era historical records of KP go to trash

PESHAWAR: Department of Library and Archives, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, wasted important historical records of the British era, raising serious questions over the performance of the authorities’ concern to preserve important documents of the province.

Nisar Baz’s while addressing the meeting of the Standing Committee for Higher Education, said that several hundred-year-old records have been destroyed in the Archives Library in Peshawar. He said that, according to my knowledge, 220 sacks of records have been lost in the Archives Library alone, while no action has been taken against any official, even after an important historical record was lost.

He added that every page of historical records is being preserved and digitized all over the world, but there is no system to preserve the precious history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Standing Committee on Higher Education has sought a response from the relevant department on the loss of 220 sacks of records. The Standing Committee takes notice of the loss of records; the inquiry report should be submitted to the committee forum.
