British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott on Thursday met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, including the overall political and security situation in Pakistan and the region, were discussed in detail.

The two leaders discussed the emerging security situation regarding Afghanistan, Iran, the Gulf states, Israel, and the US. It was agreed in the meeting to further strengthen Pak-UK relations and increase cooperation in various fields.

Ameer JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman urged Britain to play its effective role to improve the sustainable peace and security situation in the region. British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said that Britain is in constant contact with all these countries and is actively playing its diplomatic role for stability in the region.

The British Political Counselor also accompanied the High Commissioner during the meeting, while Engineer Zia-ur-Rehman and other important figures were also present from the JUI side.

This meeting took place at a time when the security situation in the region had taken a very sensitive turn due to the Middle East and Pakistan-Afghanistan border issues.
