The Bollywood film industry has lost a great figure, when 89-year-old legendary actor Dharmendra breathed his last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Monday.
The news of Dharmendra’s death has left film circles and fans in grief. According to Indian media, several Bollywood actors and their families were seen outside Dharmendra’s residence in white clothes, paying tribute to his death. Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar also confirmed Dharmendra’s death on Instagram and paid a memorable tribute to him.
According to reports, Dharmendra was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago due to breathing difficulties, while he also underwent eye surgery in April this year. Dharmendra made his last acting appearance in the film Akis, which is scheduled to release on December 25. Dharmendra made his film debut in 1960 with the film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tera, and in a career spanning six decades, he has worked in several hit and award-winning films, including Sholay, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Nookar Biwi Ka, and Phool Aur Pat. In recognition of his distinguished services, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award, by the Government of India in 2012.
Dharmendra’s real name was Krishan Deol, and he was born in a village in Ludhiana, Punjab. He married actress Prakash Kaur in 1954, later marrying famous actress Hema Malini after falling in love with her. Even at the age of 89, Dharmendra remained active on social media. He was often seen in his videos giving healthy living tips, driving a tractor, taking care of his farm, and teaching his fans lessons on simple living.
Dharmendra’s death is an irreparable loss not only to Bollywood but also to millions of his fans. His brilliant acting, wonderful personality, and simple life principles will always be remembered.
