NEW DELHI: A video clip showing Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar trying to lift the veil of a Muslim woman doctor has rapidly circulated, sparking anger. This event, which took place at a gathering in Patna has brought up major concerns regarding religious liberty and human rights during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, which faces accusations of restricting minority rights.
The Incident at the Government Ceremony
As per news sources, the troubling event occurred at a formal event where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was handing out appointment letters to newly inducted doctors. A female doctor, clad in a burqa and hijab stepped onto the stage to collect her appointment letter, from the Chief Minister.
The video captures Nitish Kumar gesturing at the woman and trying to remove her veil. After a first try he makes another attempt. With the Deputy Chief Minister and other authorities trying to intervene and halt him Nitish Kumar persisted in his actions all the while smiling.
There is no way Nitish Kumar is this vile to do something like this.
He has totally lost control of his senses and must step down from his post.
This is difficult to even watch.

The Doctor in the Video: Dr. Nasrat Parveen
The lady featured in the footage has been recognized as Dr. Nasrat Parveen, who has recently obtained a government position. The clip depicts Dr. Parveen appearing clearly shocked and upset by the Chief Minister’s conduct while the background noise of several individuals laughing intensifies the awkwardness of the moment.
Widespread Condemnation Following the Viral Video
When the video gained attention it triggered intense criticism from social media users, opposition parties and Muslim community leaders. Among the objections raised by the leaders of the Congress party, one of them was the assertion that the actions impinge on India’s image and lower her ranking. The Chief Minister’s performance was RJD’s target when they said that such behavior makes one question his sanity and ulterior motives.
Muslim Authorities Denounce the Occurrence
Muslim leaders highlighted that this was not an event but indicative of a wider attitude where choices concerning women’s clothing, hijab and veils are being compulsorily enforced. They stressed that the Bihar government has not prohibited hijabs or veils yet such measures help foster views towards them.
A Growing Concern Over Anti-Hijab Sentiment
Opponents contend that these measures despite lacking government support indirectly encourage anti-hijab attitudes and have the potential to intensify religious conflicts. They also caution that this conduct could escalate divisions, especially targeting the population in the area.
Nitish Kumar’s Silence on the Incident
No formal statement has been issued so far by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar about this scenario. But the people, agitated by the occurrence, are becoming louder and louder; there are a lot of them, who demand an apology and wonder on what principles the government run by him is based.
