ISLAMABAD: A significant update has emerged for individuals wishing to travel to the United Kingdom. As reported by the UK government, a hike in visa fees will take effect across all visa types, from student visas to applications for UK citizenship.

The Home Office revealed that the changes have become effective since Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Some of the hikes are £104 for nationality visa applications, £34 for student visas and £8 for visit visa fees.

Another notable change made by the UK Home Office is the reduction of visa fees from £1,214 to £1,000 for the purpose of registering a British child.

It is important to note that the UK Home Office changes visa fees every year in April, and these fees have always increased over the past few years.

Moreover, the UK government has banned the issuance of student visas to people from four countries Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan, due to increasing asylum claims. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood informed about a 470% increase in asylum claims between 2021 to 2025.

For those planning to apply for UK visas, this update marks an important shift in the cost structure, especially for students and those seeking long-term stays.
