PESHAWAR: The Bara Political Alliance (BPA) announced complete solidarity and full support for families temporarily displaced from Tirah during a significant Jirga held on Sunday. Tribal elders and political leaders gathered to discuss the ongoing humanitarian and security situation.
During the Jirga, the elders emphasized the urgent need for peace and stability in the area, strongly criticizing what they referred to as incompetence and corruption in managing the funds allocated for the displaced families of Tirah. They described the allegations of corruption and political interference in the distribution of the Rs4 billion relief package as unacceptable and demanded transparency and accountability.
The agenda for the national Jirga was presented by former BPA chairman Haji Shireen Afridi, who mentioned that two earlier rounds of Jirgas had been held with the Khawarij. He stated that the responsibility was later handed over to the provincial government and to the elders of Tirah, but both efforts ultimately failed to produce the desired results.
Jirga leaders highlighted that the challenges faced by Tirah’s displaced population were not limited to any single tribe or area. Instead, they represented a collective national issue that requires a comprehensive and sincere response.
They also noted that the political leadership of the province, particularly from Khyber district, had been involved at every stage of discussions concerning the temporary evacuation, and that the decision was made only after reaching a consensus.
The Jirga concluded with a call for immediate relief, transparent distribution of funds, and renewed efforts to restore peace, facilitating the safe and dignified return of the displaced families.
