COLOMBO: Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team faced a humiliating 7-wicket defeat aganist Bangladesh in their first match in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
Pakistan choose to bat first in the third match of the tournament, Pakistan Women were bowled out for a mere 129 runs in 38.3 overs. Bangladesh chased the target easily in 31.1 overs while losing only three wickets in reply.
Rubya Haider delivered a match-winning innings, hitting 54 runs not out, and was supported by Subhana Mostary with 24 not out. Fargana Hoque (2), Sharmeen Akhter (10), and captain Nigar Sultana (23) also contributed to the scoreboard.
Fatima Sana, Dania Baig, and Rameen Shamim from the Pakistani bowling department each took a wicket.
Earlier, Pakistan’s innings fell apart early on, losing two wickets in the first over without getting any runs. Omaima Sohail and Sidra Ameen were both out for ducks. Though Muneeba Ali (17) and Rameen Shamim (23) attempted to rebuild, wickets continued to fall at frequent intervals.
The other batters did not convert starts and were left on 16 not out along with Sidra Nawaz (15), Aliya Riaz (13), Captain Fatima Sana (22), and Dania Baig. The team scored 129 runs as a total, which was quite short of par.
This was the fifth encounter between the two teams in recent history, with both Pakistan and Bangladesh having won two games apiece ahead of this game. Both nations had reached the main tournament from the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

Pakistan Women will now be subjected to a stern test in their second group clash against India on October 5.
