SYDNEY: The first qualifier of the Big Bash League on Tuesday, between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers, actually sparked a lot of talk due to Babar Azam’s dismissal.
As the game progressed, the Sixers lost two wickets early, and after the first one, Babar Azam came in the second to take the purple cap for his team’s innings.
Only one ball was faced by him, and he was off-balled through the capture of the wicketkeeper from the bowling of Cooper Connolly.
The video of the dismissal was shared and viewed through the lens of social media. The replay showed that Babar’s foot and the ball hitting the stumps were extremely close, making this case difficult to judge. The third umpire, after carefully reviewing the footage ruled Babur out.
The decision was a cause for division among the fans on social media. Some believed the batter was clearly out, while others argued that Babar’s foot had crossed the crease in time.
Sydney Sixers got a very heavy defeat because a super low total of only 99 runs and losing the match by 48 runs was the result of their 148-chasing-all-out performance.
Getting out in the first match of the day made Babar Azam even more annoyed as he had just shown that feeling when he tried to get Steve Smith to take a single but got turned down. In that game too, Babur could only manage a run-of-the-mill 1 from 7 balls before being sent to the stands.
