Babar Azam makes history, leaves Shahid Afridi behind in catch records

Babar Azam has gone on to make history once more in his career, which is decorated with many milestones by outdoing ex-captain Shahid Afridi, in the number of catches taken for Pakistan in international cricket.

Babar Azam did this by catching Kusal Mendis during the Tri-Nation T20 series final against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. In‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ the very last game Babar was able to take three catches and hence his overall number of catches in international matches has gone up to 170, so he is by far the highest catching record holder of Pakistan going past Afridi who had 167 catches when he ended his career.

The ranking of the ten best catchers of Pakistan players includes the former captain Younis Khan with 281 catches at the top and then Inzamam-ul-Haq with 194 catches. Afridi is currently at the fourth position rather than the third ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌one.

Moreover, three catches by Babar Azam in the T20 series final have made him the leading fielder for Pakistan in T20 cricket. He has already gone past Fakhar Zaman, who has 57 catches, and Shoaib Malik, who is third, with 50 catches. ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌
