ISLAMABAD: The case of a citizen allegedly being offloaded from a flight to Azerbaijan has reached the court, and he appealed that an FIA officer demanded 80000 rupees’ bribery from him.

On the citizen’s request in the Islamabad High Court, the matter was sent to the DG FIA for legal action and directed that he conduct an inquiry as per the law and submit a report.

Petitioner Ehtesham-ul-Haq told the court that the FIA staff posted at Islamabad International Airport offloaded him from the flight without any reason and demanded a bribe of Rs 80,000 so that he could depart for his destination. He also attached his passport and relevant records with the offload stamp along with the application.

The FIA replied to the court that offloading, bribery, and other allegations are denied; however, if the petitioner provides evidence, an impartial inquiry will be conducted. After examining the record, the court clarified that the citizen did not make any application to the DG FIA before approaching the court; therefore, it is mandatory for the applicant to first place the matter before the concerned officer.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir said in a written order that due to the serious nature of the allegations, this application should be considered pending before the DG FIA. The court directed that the DG FIA conduct an inquiry as per the law and submit a report. It was also ordered to send a certified copy of the court order to the DG FIA. The court disposed of the case with instructions.
