MELBOURNE: Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell has announced that he is not going to be a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) anymore thus becoming the latest major international player to decide against the competition.
Maxwell communicated through an Instagram post that he decided not to submit his name for the IPL auction. The renowned all-rounder mentioned that following unforgettable seasons he believed it was the appropriate moment to bow out.
“In my Instagram post, I mentioned that after memorable seasons I have chosen not to enter my name in the IPL auction. I’ve been lucky to share the field with some of the players globally ” Maxwell stated, conveying appreciation for the encouragement he gained during his IPL journey.
Maxwell additionally expressed gratitude, to fans, franchises and teammates for their support throughout the years.
The announcement follows similar decisions by South Africa’s Faf du Plessis and England’s Moeen Ali, both of whom have opted out of the upcoming IPL season. The two cricketers are expected to feature in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead.
With the exit of Maxwell, it is upheaval layered upon upheaval as the next IPL season is fast gaining momentum with the flip of the decision of numerous veteran international stars diverting their attention to other leagues and engagements.

Moeen Ali announces return to PSL after four-year break
Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has declared his comeback to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) expressing his enthusiasm about joining the league.
Following the announcement of the PSL earlier this year the league is preparing to grow to eight teams by incorporating two additional franchises.
At the time Moeen, who took part in the marquee league earlier while playing for the former champions Multan Sultans during the 2020 and 2021 tournaments, conveyed his enthusiasm to return to the league.
Moeen mentioned that the PSL since its inception in 2016 has “gained a reputation, for T20 cricket,” showcasing intense competition and skilled athletes.
“I’m thrilled to be part of HBL PSL as it enters its New Era. The league is known for T20 cricket featuring fierce competition and exceptional talent throughout all the teams,” Moeen posted on Instagram.
The 38-year-old, who played for England in 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is throughout his career was also included in the Three Lions team that undertook its landmark tour of Pakistan in 2022 to contest a three-match Test series. In addition, Moeen has visited the country on occasions.
Looking back at his experiences in Pakistan Moeen mentioned that he relished playing there and particularly lauded the passionate audience stating that they motivate players to perform at their highest level, on the field.
“Competing in Pakistan is consistently amazing; the standard of cricket is exceptional and the enthusiasm and energy, from the spectators motivate you to perform at your peak” he added.

Moeen’s words were made public just a few days after another news came which is, Faf du Plessis, the former South African captain had declared that he is out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and that he will be playing in the next PSL season only.
On his Instagram handle, the famous cricketer made this public on the 29th of November that he will be abstaining from the IPL auction this year.
“It’s a major decision and one that I make with a lot of thanks when I reflect on it,” he said in his post.
