SWAT (Shahzad Naveed): The residence of senior Awami National Party (ANP) leader and former provincial minister Ayub Khan Ashary was attacked by armed assailants late last night; however, the attack was bravely thwarted by his personal guards.
Details indicate that the attackers targeted Ayub Khan Ashari’s house under the cover of darkness. As soon as the attack began, the vigilant guards on duty responded with force, leading to a significant exchange of gunfire from both sides. Taking advantage of the heavy rain and darkness, the attackers managed to escape the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, and all family members are safe.
Senior police officials have arrived at the location to investigate the matter. In a statement, Ayub Khan Ashary expressed that such incidents aim to silence their voices against insecurity.
He reaffirmed that these cowardly acts will not deter them from their principled stance. “We will continue to advocate for the fundamental right to peace for this land and its inhabitants,” he stated.
He noted that the recent attack on Mumtaz Ali Khan in Shakardara and the one on his home are attempts to undermine the peace in Swat. Ashari urged the government to take action against the perpetrators and provide adequate security.
