ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Saturday strongly criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for skipping a key meeting on the repatriation of Afghan refugees, calling it an instance of political point-scoring.
Speaking to the media, Tarar said the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, included participation from all relevant institutions and provincial governments. However, he noted that among all chief ministers, only Sohail Afridi failed to attend, with Muzzammil Aslam representing him instead.
Tarar stressed that the KP Chief Minister’s attendance was particularly crucial given the province’s sensitive security situation and its direct border with Afghanistan. He added that important decisions regarding the repatriation of Afghan refugees were taken during the meeting.
The minister further said the KP Chief Minister’s absence reflected a lack of interest in dialogue and institutional coordination. Commenting on foreign policy, Tarar highlighted that Pakistan has consistently advocated for Gaza and the Palestinian cause, crediting the government’s diplomatic initiatives for strengthening the country’s foreign relations.
He added that following recent operations, Pakistan’s green passport is now being taken more seriously at the international level due to the government’s effective diplomacy.
Concluding his remarks, Tarar said the public has rejected the protest calls given by the TLP and PTI, asserting that these aimless campaigns have failed to gain traction, with life across the country continuing as normal.
