ISLAMABAD: ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has claimed that ex-intelligence official Faiz Hameed, after his retirement, was acting as a political adviser to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, although he was not allowed to take part in political activities.

During an interview with a private news channel, Tarar accused Faiz Hameed of being deeply involved in political scheming and also having a hand in happenings like those of May 9, which he termed as ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌an insurgency. He said that participation in political activities after retirement was prohibited, yet Faiz Hameed continued to remain politically active.

The information minister further stated that evidence exists regarding what he termed the “Faiz–Niazi nexus,” adding that the case would proceed based on findings emerging from ongoing investigations. “The matter will move forward in light of the evidence gathered so far. We will see how the investigation progresses,” he said.

Commenting on meetings with the PTI founder in jail, Tarar remarked that these kinds of communications should occur only within the bounds of the law. He pointed out that the jail regulations expressly forbid political talk in the course of meetings with the convicts

Tarar also referred to a recent meeting involving Uzma Khan, saying it had been allowed because no violation had occurred at the time. However, he added that following a subsequent violation, restrictions have now been imposed in her case as well.

Tarar further added that all matters related to investigations and jail regulations would be handled according to established legal procedures.

KP govt failing to serve people: Atta Tarar

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for failing to take serious steps for the welfare of its citizens.

After expressing condolences for the death of the mother of Prime Minister’s Media Coordinator Ikhtiar Wali in Nowshera, Tarar addressed the media, stating that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s approach is “condemnable” and “regrettable.” He emphasised that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seems more focused on political gatherings than addressing public issues.

Tarar asserted that the Chief Minister’s primary demand appears to be a meeting with the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which he labelled as illegal. He pointed out that the PTI founder is not a political prisoner, but a convicted criminal involved in a major corruption case.

The Federal Minister also alleged that the Indian media is portraying the PTI founder in a favourable light, while the PTI is leveraging both Indian and Afghan media to incite chaos in the country. He claimed that the provincial government has neglected public concerns and is instead focused on escalating tensions through political narratives.
