RAWALPINDI: In a significant development in the November protest case, a Rawalpindi court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, prompting police to form a special team to carry out her arrest.
According to officials, a team from the Sadiqabad Police Station will leave for Lahore today with the warrant, which lists her address as 14 Upper Mall Road, Lahore.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi issued the warrant on Friday after Aleema Khan repeatedly failed to appear before the court. Another police team has been tasked with ensuring that the summons is delivered to her guarantor.
The guarantor, Umar Sharif — a resident of Rawalpindi — had submitted surety bonds worth Rs100,000. As per the court order, if Aleema Khan does not appear on October 20, legal proceedings will be initiated against the guarantor.
Aleema Khan is among 11 accused who have already been formally charged in the case. The prosecution has summoned five witnesses for the next hearing scheduled on October 20.
In total, 87 individuals have been named in the case, nine have confessed and been convicted, while 66 remain absconding.
