ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik, has charged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government with misleading the public about the National Finance Commission (NFC) funds release and has declared the claims to be false.
In a television program, Barrister Aqeel mentioned that the KP Chief Minister’s priorities and policy direction are wrong and that they are the very reason the province is not able to effectively deal with its urgent problems. He further accused the provincial government of propagating “one lie after another,” where the biggest lie is that KP has yet to receive its NFC allocations.
Malik made it clear that the federal government has disbursed a total of PKR 5.86 trillion to the province according to the NFC Award so far. He also pointed out that the additional one percent funds for anti-terrorism activities in KP are being granted continuously but the provincial government has not managed to bring a significant positive change in the order.
The minister also focused on the provincial government’s inefficacy regarding the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), stating, “the CTD has not been able to produce good results despite the resources allocated.
He also aimed at the Chief Minister of KP saying that he is attracting more attention to the streets and regularly visiting Lahore and Karachi instead of giving attention to the provincial issues. According to Malik, the people have made their choice in favor of development, peace, and better governance, not for the PTI founder’s slogans.
KP Finance Advisor seeks urgent federal govt help amid financial crisis
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Advisor Mazamil Aslam urged the federal government for its immediate attention as the province is undergoing a harsh financial crisis.
Mazamil Aslam stated that the delay in and cutting down the federal money release has already put the province in a very tight financial spot and that it is very difficult if not impossible to attain the target for the PKR 157 billion surplus for the fiscal year 2026 and 2025.
The Finance Advisor stated that the central government released less money than what was planned during the first half of the year 2025-26, which had a particularly negative impact on the provincial financial system. Out of the total allocated amount of PKR 292 billion for the merged districts, the amount that was released in the last six months was only PKR 56 billion, thereby putting a lot of the development projects that were being funded at that time underfunded.
Moreover, he narrated that the federal government had a short release of PKR 127 billion, PKR 19 billion was given for direct transfers instead of the budgeted PKR 115 billion, and the province received only PKR 76 billion less than its NFC share, with hydel profit receipts of PKR 18 billion in contrast to the projected PKR 106 billion.
Mazamil Aslam pointed out that the federal shortfall in releases, which is continuous, is detrimental to development activities, and he added that it has already cost the provincial government PKR 46 billion which is released from its limited resources just for crisis management.
The KP government has asked the federal authorities to see to it that the funds are disbursed in full and on time so that there are no interruptions in the development of provincial projects and the provision of public services.
