PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Thursday arrested two officials of the Local Government Department in Mohmand district after catching them red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs100,000.

According to an Anti-Corruption KP spokesperson, the department launched a sting operation following complaints of bribery in the office of the Assistant Director of Local Government, Mohmand. The operation took place in the presence of District Magistrate Iftikhar Ahmed.

During the trap operation, Anti-Corruption officials apprehended stenographer Badshah Gul and junior clerk Rehmat Syed while they were receiving the bribe. The team recovered Rs100,000 from their possession on the spot.

The spokesperson said the accused officials had allegedly demanded Rs300,000 from a citizen to process official work. Following the arrest, Anti-Corruption KP registered a first information report (FIR) against both suspects and initiated further legal proceedings.

Anti-Corruption officials said they were making efforts to arrest other individuals involved in the case. “The department remains committed to taking strict action against corruption and ensuring transparency in public offices,” the spokesperson added.

The statement said that the investigation is ongoing and more developments are to come.
