PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) has expressed concern over ongoing protests and road closures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the public is suffering due to the situation.
ANP issued a statement that explained that ongoing street protests and traffic blockages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa present public safety issues that endanger citizens.
According to Engineer Ehsanullah Khan, who serves as the ANP central spokesperson, they face severe problems because all highways in the province remain closed. He demanded that the government needs to see their duty because patients and travelers need to use highways which the government must maintain for public access.
He charged that the ruling party dedicates more resources to their political goals instead of their responsibility to address public needs. He believes that government exists to serve its citizens while it must keep all citizens safe and fight terrorists and deliver essential public services. The government has two responsibilities which include maintaining public safety and fighting terrorism and providing essential services to the public.
Ehsanullah Khan questioned why protests are repeatedly staged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instead of in areas where key decisions are made. The province serves as the political battleground while all other regions remain untouched according to him.
The current political situation shows that major political powers have entered into power struggles which lead to public hardship for average citizens.
The ANP spokesperson also referred to reports regarding the health of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, saying that if such reports are true, any inhumane treatment should be condemned. Aimal Wali Khan the central president of ANP has shown his worries about this matter according to him.
He said ANP’s political leaders have experienced political repression throughout their history because they do not want other people to experience the same treatment.
Ehsanullah Khan declared that political conflicts should not result in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa residents becoming victims of political conflicts because the public will demand accountability for their current problems.
