MARDAN: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam on Friday criticised Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leadership, alleging that the party was not serious about negotiations and had lost confidence in Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
Speaking to the media in Mardan, Mr Muqam claimed that Aleema Khan had effectively become PTI’s “martial law administrator” and that she had stated those seeking dialogue were “not among us”.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had repeatedly invited PTI for talks, but alleged that the party lacked seriousness. “Imran Khan is a prisoner of his own mindset and has nothing to do with the interests of the country and the nation,” the minister said.
Mr Muqam also aimed at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, saying that while the province faced governance challenges, the CM was “patrolling the streets of Lahore”. He added that the people of KP had given Sohail Afridi a mandate to serve them, not to remain outside the province.
Referring to the events of May 9, the federal minister alleged that they were in line with “India’s agenda” and aimed at weakening state institutions. He said the armed forces had “defeated India” and rejected what he termed PTI’s narrative.
Calling on the KP chief minister to return to the province, Mr Muqam said he should “show some modesty” and focus on governance.
