Ambreen Jan, the previous information secretary, was chosen on Friday as the chairperson of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, PEMRA the first woman to lead an electronic media regulator.
Before this appointment, PEMRA was headed by Mohammad Saleem Baig. A meeting of the parliamentary committee, under the chair of Shehbaz Babar, was called to name the new head of the media regulatory authority, which unanimously picked Ambreen Jan.
After the unanimous endorsement of the committee, nomination of Jan was sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final confirmation.
Ms. Jan has previously served as managing director at the state broadcaster PTV.
She was one of the shortlisted candidates, which also included Brigadier (retd) Anwar Ahmed, Mateen Haider, Irfan Ashraf, and Hamid Khan.
