‎Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, will represent Pakistan at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh in Dhaka tomorrow, February 17, 2026.

‎ Tariq Rahman (Bangladesh Nationalist Party – BNP) will take the oath of office as Prime Minister after securing a clear majority in the elections.

‎ Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif was specially invited to attend the ceremony, however, he will not be able to attend due to his previously scheduled official visit to Austria. In his place, Ahsan Iqbal will go to Dhaka with a message of goodwill from the Pakistani government and people.

‎The swearing-in ceremony will be held on February 17 at the South Plaza of the Parliament House in Dhaka.

‎Heads of state and representatives of about 13 countries, including India, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and SAARC countries, have been invited for this event.

‎According to the results of the recent general elections in Bangladesh BNP has secured a two-thirds majority by winning more than 209 out of 299 seats.

‎ Jamaat-e-Islami has emerged as the second largest party with 68 seats.

‎According to analysts, the formation of a new government under the leadership of Tariq Rahman is expected to usher in a new era in diplomatic and trade relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

‎ Ahsan Iqbal will also hold meetings with the Bangladeshi leadership during this visit, which aims to further promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
