Takhar, Afghanistan: The police chief of Badakhshan Province, Maulvi Mirajuddin, was killed in an ambush allegedly carried out by fighters of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), according to local reports.

Sources said the attack took place while the police chief was travelling from Badakhshan to Takhar. His vehicle was reportedly targeted in a planned ambush by NRF fighters along the route.

Maulvi Mirajuddin died at the scene as a result of the attack. Details about possible casualties among his security personnel were not immediately available.

The National Resistance Front, an armed group opposing the current authorities in Afghanistan, has carried out several attacks in northern provinces in recent months.

Officials have not yet released a detailed statement about the incident. However, the attack highlights continuing security challenges in parts of northern Afghanistan.

Reports of Hibatullah Akhundzada’s death declared false

Meanwhile, Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada is alive, according to sources, dismissing recent reports of his death as baseless.

Local and international media outlets had circulated unverified claims suggesting that Akhundzada had been killed, but Taliban spokespeople and other credible sources confirmed that the reports were false.

Authorities emphasized that any rumours regarding the death of the Taliban chief should be treated with caution until verified by reliable sources.
