The Afghanistan Ministry of Commerce has sent a letter to the Director General Afghan Transit Trade and the Member of Customs Operation FBR to facilitate the delivery of cargoes of UN organizations to Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Commerce has written a letter to the Director General (DG) Afghan Transit Trade and the Member of Customs Operation FBR, stating that the delivery of cargo vehicles should be allowed in a phased manner on humanitarian grounds. The letter said that the delivery of cargoes of United Nations (UN) organizations to Afghanistan should be facilitated. The Ministry of Commerce letter further said that the containers of UNICEF, World Food Program, and UNFPA should be cleared in a phased manner.
The letter also said that on humanitarian grounds, permission should be given in a phased manner for the movement of cargo vehicles, with containers carrying food items being cleared in the first phase. The letter from the Ministry of Commerce said that containers carrying medicines and medical equipment should be cleared in the second phase, and kits for students and teachers in the third phase.
The letter said that a decision in principle was taken to move the containers in a phased manner on the advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was requested that the containers be sent to Afghanistan through the Torkham and Chaman borders. The letter also said that this permission should be given under the Afghan Transit Trade and Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement Rules.
