RAWALPINDI: The police fired water cannons on the protesters to scatter the crowd gathered outside Adiala jail during a sit-in protest, as a consequence many people were injured.
The demonstration that was heavily participated by the activists and women gathering for a righteous cause became a fiasco when the police used force. The demonstration, involving activists and women advocating for a cause became disorderly following the deployment of force, by police.
According to reports, police began applying water hoses to the demonstrators as a means of dispersing the protest. The use of water cannons drenched people and, reportedly, a few got hurt during the operation.
In an event journalist Hassnain Rafiq shared on Twitter that Member of National Assembly (MNA) Shahid Khatak plunged into a drain while trying to save his associate Azma Khanum. This incident resulted in an injury with Khattak fracturing his leg during the fall.
As hostilities intensified demonstrators among them women were observed confronting the police. The atmosphere grew progressively unstable leading to more police backup being sent to the location. Officials persist in their attempts to evacuate the site and scatter the leftover protesters.
The demonstration outside Adiala Jail is among episodes of public disorder, in the area as individuals persist in advocating for different issues. The use of water cannon has escalated the anger of the people so many are questioning the level of force used by the police in the event.
The officials have not yet given any remarks about the wounds that occurred in the protests, however, the police have made it clear that the operation was for the purpose of keeping the peace.
