ABBOTTABAD: A young lady doctor who was abducted and murdered in Abbottabad was laid to rest on Monday after completion of the post-mortem examination, as outrage continued to grow over the brutal killing.
A large number of family members, relatives, colleagues and local residents attended the funeral prayers of Dr warda.
Police said the victim’s body was recovered from the forests of Thandiani after investigators arrested the prime suspect, identified as the doctor’s friend, Rida.
According to officials, Dr warda had entrusted 67 tolas of gold to the suspect for safekeeping. However, investigators allege that Rida planned to take unlawful possession of the gold and conspired to have the doctor killed.
Authorities said the suspect handed Dr warda over to hired assassins, who murdered her and dumped the body in a remote forest area. Acting on the suspect’s disclosures, police arrested three men, including an alleged contract killer.
The main accused, however, managed to flee and remains at large. Police have launched a search operation to trace and arrest the fleeing suspect.
The incident sparked strong reactions within the medical community. The Doctors Association staged a protest, claiming the tragedy could have been averted had timely action been taken on earlier reports of the doctor’s disappearance.
Representatives demanded an impartial investigation and strict punishment for all those involved, warning that such incidents were contributing to a growing sense of insecurity among medical professionals.
