ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) has reached an agreement with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to support the nomination of Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the chief of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, for the position of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
According to a statement issued by JUI on X, a PTI delegation visited Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence in Islamabad, where the JUI chief expressed his support for Achakzai’s nomination. The PTI delegation included Asad Qaiser, PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar, and Shahram Khan Tarakai. At the same time, Maulana Fazlur Rehman was accompanied by Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, Advocate Jalaluddin, and his son, Maulana Asjad Mahmood.
During their meeting, the PTI delegation asked the JUI chief to help unite the opposition in parliament and also sought cooperation regarding a vacant Senate seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, the two parties discussed the current political and regional situation. They considered the proposal to convene a national jirga to address the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a suggestion that Maulana Fazlur Rehman welcomed.
