ISLAMABAD: Begum Riffat Ara Alvi, the mother of martyred journalist Arshad Sharif, has passed away after a long and courageous struggle for justice for her son.
Despite her advanced age and fragile health, she remained steadfast in her pursuit, travelling from place to place to ensure accountability for Arshad Sharif’s killing.
Meanwhile, the third death anniversary of renowned journalist Arshad Sharif was observed on Thursday at the National Press Club (NPC). The event was attended by prominent political leaders, journalists, and media representatives, who paid tribute to his legacy and commitment to press freedom.
Among those who spoke were Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ain Alliance leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, PFUJ President Afzal Butt, RIUJ President Tariq Ali Virk, NPC President Azhar Jatoi, Secretary Nayyar Ali, senior journalists Hamid Mir and Matiullah Jan, former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, and Arshad Sharif’s widow, Javeria Siddique.
Speakers praised Arshad Sharif’s fearless journalism and unwavering dedication to truth, while also highlighting the increasing threats and challenges confronting media professionals in Pakistan today.
