PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi stated that he was prevented from travelling to Charsadda and Bara due to threats to his life. Despite this, he expressed that he was not afraid of death and was prepared to sacrifice his life for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Imran Khan.
Speaking at a rally in Charsadda, he emphasised that he would not accept decisions made behind closed doors without consultation and affirmed that all his actions would align with the vision set forth by the founder of PTI. Sohail Afridi declared that since Imran Khan appointed him as Chief Minister, all decisions would adhere to Khan’s principles.
He noted that this rally marked his first as Chief Minister in a district where PTI had previously eliminated a rival political party. He claimed that today’s event demonstrated that the people of Pakhtunkhwa support the founder of PTI.
Furthermore, Afridi pointed out that when he was nominated for the Chief Minister position, there were factions that did not accept him. However, he asserted that the turnout today proved he has the backing of the public, and he called for respect for the people’s mandate. He alleged that certain individuals attempted to portray him as a terrorist through press conferences.
Sohail Afridi expressed his desire to meet the founder of PTI but stated that he was denied the opportunity. Although he sought a meeting through the Islamabad High Court, the court’s order allowing the meeting was not upheld.
With all avenues closed off to him, he felt compelled to reach out to the public. He initiated a movement from Charsadda district advocating for the release of the PTI founder. The Chief Minister urged party workers to take to the streets in support of their leader, promising to bring those who oppressed the workers to justice.
