LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday underscored the significance of the proposed Pakistan-Afghanistan talks in Doha, calling them “highly important” in light of recent tensions between the two neighbours.

Commenting on the ongoing border conflict, Rafique stressed that Pakistan and Afghanistan must establish permanent and transparent rules for peaceful coexistence, as “geography cannot be altered.”

He noted that despite the historical ups and downs in bilateral relations, millions of Muslims on both sides of the border share deep cultural and linguistic ties that should not be overlooked.

Rafique further remarked that while Afghanistan has the right to maintain cordial relations with India, such ties must not compromise Pakistan’s security.

He added that Pakistan should ensure Afghanistan halts the export of armed extremists under all circumstances, especially considering the food, essential supplies, and numerous other forms of assistance Pakistan continues to provide.
