PESHAWAR: The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, has granted in-principle approval for a special Security Challenge Allowance alongside multi-billion-rupee funding proposals for the provincial police force.

The move aims to provide financial relief and operational support to police personnel performing duties under severe security threats, hostile environments, and ongoing anti-terrorism challenges.

According to the official minutes of the meeting chaired by Governor Kundi, officers and personnel deployed in vulnerable southern and newly merged districts will receive 120% of their basic pay, while personnel stationed in other settled districts will receive 100% of their basic pay. Those serving in the Hazara region will receive 75% of their basic pay.

The financial estimate for the Security Challenge Allowance alone carries a monthly cost exceeding PKR 5.159 billion (approx. PKR 5.16 billion).

In addition to the monthly allowances, the meeting addressed logistical and development requirements. Authorities were directed to immediately release the unreleased police procurement funds previously allocated for the 2026–27 fiscal year.

An in-principle consensus was also reached to provide PKR 13.871 billion in additional funding for modern weaponry, ammunition, advanced surveillance equipment, vehicles, and operational assets. Furthermore, the meeting approved the proposal to release PKR 12.225 billion to advance ongoing and planned police infrastructure and development initiatives.

Relevant authorities have been instructed to formalize these proposals into an official executive summary for final approval. The ultimate implementation and disbursement of the financial assistance package will depend on subsequent administrative approvals and formal notification.
