The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that citizens do not need to file a First Information Report (FIR) with the police to obtain a replacement for a lost Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).
The clarification was issued in response to a query raised by a citizen on social media, addressing confusion over the documents required to replace a lost identity card.
NADRA said there was no requirement under its policy for applicants to submit an FIR when applying for a replacement CNIC. Citizens can proceed with their applications without providing a police report as proof of the card’s loss.
The authority explained that reporting a lost identity card to the police may be a precautionary step to reduce the risk of its misuse. However, it stressed that doing so is not mandatory for obtaining a replacement.
Citizens who have lost their CNIC can apply for a replacement by visiting a NADRA registration centre or using the Pak ID online service.
NADRA also clarified that applicants are not required to submit an FIR simply to explain the reason for requesting a replacement identity card.
