ISLAMABAD: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi has formally announced his resignation from the position of the party’s additional secretary general.

According to a private TV channel, Naqvi clarified that his decision was not driven by any personal differences or resentment towards the party. Instead, he said he was stepping down from the position on the basis of principles and organisational matters.

He also stated that he had not yet issued a show-cause notice to PTI Senator Mushtaq Yousafzai.

It is worth mentioning that two days earlier, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had directed Naqvi to issue a formal show-cause notice to Senator Mushtaq Yousafzai over alleged violations of party discipline and principles.

Commenting on the matter, Barrister Gohar said that expressing differences of opinion at party forums was everyone’s right and that he respected this principle. However, he maintained that disciplinary action became necessary when senior leadership was openly criticised and party discipline was repeatedly violated.

According to Barrister Gohar, Senator Yousafzai had previously been cautioned over her conduct, following which the decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings was taken.
